Schumann Quartett

The Schumann Quartet were appointed resident Chamber Music Professors of Echo in 2023.

Formed in Cologne in 2009, they are widely considered as seasoned veterans in the collaborative music world, and have successfully concluded the first year in their chamber music residency with Echo, which entailed a partnership with the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Elvina Quartet.

The Elvina Quartet were able to travel to Echo through the 'George Henderson Scholarship', which is awarded to outstanding musician/groups (currently enrolled at the Sydney Conservatorium), who demonstrate a need for further musical impulses abroad.

Committed to passing down their knowledge of chamber music to the younger generation, the Schumann Quartett dedicates a week of their schedule to mentor younger quartets who are embarking on a life in chamber music and quartet playing, and throughout the week, our mentors takes their students through a journey through music and time to shine light and illuminate the most important aspects of chamber music, which we hope serves as a strong musical foundation for our mentees.

The Schumann Quartett are exemplary proponents to meaningful music making that results from searching for truth and meaning in the works they perform, and through this program Echo hopes to instil similar approaches to music making to our selected groups.
