Bow Maker
Mirecourt, France

Frog, stamped E. Grandchamp
Eric Grandchamp trained as a bow maker at the École Nationale de Lutherie in Mirecourt, France, under Bernard Ouchard, a leading figure of the New French school of bow making that traces its lineage back to Tourte and Peccatte.
He won silver medals in Paris in 1991 for both violin and cello bows, and in 1994 received gold medals from the Violin Society of America for his violin, viola and cello bows, along with the VSA's "Best Craftsman" award the same year.
Grandchamp has also passed on his craft as a teacher, with a number of contemporary bow makers having trained under him. His bows are sought after by professional string players and collectors, and appear regularly at auction alongside other fine French makers.
