Schmidt

C. Daniel Schmidt is a Bogenmachermeister in Dresden and the third generation of bow makers in his family, a craft carried through his household since the eighteenth century. He completed his apprenticeship in 1986 and took his master's title in 1990.

He makes and restores bows for violin, viola, cello and double bass. His work was recognised early, with gold medals at the 1989 competition in Mittenwald, and his bows are played by artists including Julian Rachlin.

During the Kronberg festivals he moves his workshop into the Casals Forum, answering questions, carrying out emergency repairs and letting visitors watch him work. It is the same openness he brings to Echo Arts, where he joins our circle of artisans as a partner.
